Today, Congressman Anthony D’Esposito joined Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, State Sen. Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick, and Town of Hempstead Council Members Tom Muscarella, Laura Ryder, and Dennis Dunne, Sr. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion for a press conference condemning Governor Hochul’s political ‘pause’ on congestion pricing after reports surfaced that the Governor was exploring options to restart implementation of the program in the near future.

“Governor Kathy Hochul has finally admitted that her faux ‘pause’ on congestion pricing was merely a delay until after the election because Hochul knows that this new tax on commuters being advanced by Democrats is deeply unpopular on Long Island,” said Congressman D’Esposito. “Forcing hardworking commuters to pay a hefty fee just to get to work, school, or medical appointments in lower Manhattan is not only misguided but also unjust and I will continue fighting Hochul’s congestion pricing plan via bipartisan legislation in Washington and in collaboration with colleagues in government like Supervisor Don Clavin and the members of the Hempstead Town Board.”

‘Congestion Pricing’ is a deeply unpopular plan to tax individuals driving through almost all of Manhattan south of 60th Street. The plan has been proposed multiple times, always failing due to its unpopularity with New York residents.
