The New York State Senate Republican Conference has introduced a legislative agenda titled "Liberate New York" for 2025. This plan aims to address various policy issues and challenges faced by residents, which they attribute to the current Democrat-led administration in Albany.
Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt criticized Democrat policies, stating, “From endless taxes, migrant spending and out of touch energy mandates to name a few Democrat driven policies driving this state into the ground." He highlighted issues such as crime and affordability as key areas needing reform.
Senate Deputy Republican Leader Andrew Lanza emphasized the need for change, saying, “Our Senate Republican proposals bring common sense to a State government that has been dominated by one-party rule. Enough is enough, and it is time to change course!”
Senator Steven Rhoads outlined the agenda's focus on reversing radical policies: “Our plan to 'Liberate New York' will reverse these harmful policies and chart a brighter path forward for New York.”
The agenda covers several priorities including economic opportunity, public safety, and addressing the migrant crisis. Senator Jake Ashby noted their goal is to help New Yorkers feel safer and reduce costs: “New Yorkers want a break on their bills and they want to feel safe in their neighborhoods."
Other senators echoed these sentiments. Senator George Borrello stated that the agenda seeks to counteract "reckless" Democratic policies while Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick described it as a roadmap committed to fighting Albany’s radical policies.
Several senators pointed out what they see as failures of current leadership. Senator Steve Chan remarked on how shortsighted policies have affected communities negatively, while Senator Patrick Gallivan called for better control over government size and cost.
The initiative is seen by its proponents as an opportunity to restore common sense governance. Senator Joseph Griffo said it offers solutions that will strengthen various sectors of the state. Similarly, Senator Pam Helming stressed the importance of leading reforms that benefit all New Yorkers.
Overall, the "Liberate New York" agenda represents an effort by Senate Republicans to address concerns about affordability, safety, and governance under current state leadership.
