Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) has reached out to the New York state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and New York state Homes and Community Renewal for urgent assistance following a devastating fire at a senior living apartment complex in Plainview on Feb 21, 2024.
In his letter, Blumencranz expressed his deep concern over the incident, which resulted in the loss of two lives and left several individuals requiring treatment for smoke inhalation. He is urging the state agencies to swiftly deploy emergency recovery and housing resources to aid those affected by the tragic event.
Reflecting on the community's response to the tragedy, Blumencranz praised the resilience and compassion shown by residents in supporting one another during this challenging time. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure that all individuals impacted by the fire receive the necessary assistance.
"The news coming out of Plainview last weekend was heartbreaking, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were impacted by this tragedy," said Blumencranz. "During this time, however, I’ve also seen the incredible strength and resilience of this community as neighbors, families, and friends have stepped up to help those in need."
Blumencranz reiterated the need for comprehensive state support, including temporary housing, medical care, and access to essential supplies for the victims and their families. He affirmed his commitment to working alongside the community to facilitate the recovery process and ensure that no individual is left without essential resources.
"We must continue to work together to make sure no one is left without their basic needs being met," stated Blumencranz. "This is why I’m calling for emergency state resources to be deployed to provide much-needed support to victims and their families, including temporary housing, medical care, and access to basic necessities."
The assemblyman concluded his message with a message of solidarity, stating, "Together we will get through this and provide resources to those affected."
