Charles John Kilbride enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and retired with the rank of Major. As both an enlisted Marine and Marine officer, Mr. Kilbride served at bases across the nation, including Quantico, Virginia; Jacksonville, North Carolina; Twentynine Palms, California; Albany, Georgia; and Long Island, New York. In his hometown area, his leadership as a Marine recruiter inspired many New Yorkers to enlist. He was frequently recognized as the Marine of the Quarter and successfully recruited numerous honor man graduates from Parris Island.
New York State Senator Steve Rhoads and We Care Blankets have announced the success of their month-long yarn and blanket drive for children with cancer. The drive collected 407,277 yards of yarn and 225 handmade blankets, equivalent to 231 miles or over 4,070 football fields of yarn.
Jay Caputo served in the United States Naval Air Reserve and achieved the rank of Captain. A native of Brooklyn, he enlisted in the Reserve at NAS New York (Floyd Bennett Field) in June 1970 as an Airman recruit. Following recruit training, he was assigned to Air Traffic Controller “A” School, where he graduated second in his class. He returned to NAS New York, where he was assigned to multiple reserve units and advanced to Air Traffic Controller Second Class. He continued to serve in an enlisted status for 12 years.
