Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) has announced the opening of its new Thoracic Surgery Clinic, aimed at providing specialized surgical care for patients with chest conditions, including lung diseases. The clinic is set to operate on Monday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and will be led by Dr. Daniel De Oliveira, a Board-Certified Thoracic and General Surgeon.
Megan Ryan, President, CEO, and General Counsel for Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), stated, "This expansion of our thoracic surgery services is a major step forward in enhancing the level of specialized care available at NUMC." She added that Dr. De Oliveira's expertise would offer patients high-level care options close to home.
The clinic will address both benign and malignant chest diseases and provide multidisciplinary treatment for lung cancer alongside pulmonology and oncology services. Patients will have access to advanced procedures such as Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and mediastinoscopy.
Lung cancer remains a significant health concern in the United States, being the second most common cancer among men and women according to the American Cancer Society. Black men are notably about 12% more likely to develop lung cancer than White men.
Additionally, the clinic will offer expert chest trauma care including rib plating, complex pleural effusion management, biopsy procedures, and cardiac device insertions.
This new facility joins other recently opened clinics at NUMC like the Reflux Clinic and Colorectal Clinic. Over the past year, NUMC has also expanded hours for its General Medicine, Women’s Health, and Pediatric clinics.
