Assemblymembers Ed Ra, Michael Durso, and Jarett Gandolfo have expressed their support for IBEW Local 1049 workers. The statement comes as the workers rally on Long Island amid ongoing contract negotiations with National Grid.

The assemblymembers emphasized the critical role that IBEW Local 1049 workers play in maintaining power plants and gas lines, ensuring safe and reliable services for families and businesses. They stated, “The men and women of IBEW Local 1049 keep the lights on, and even more, they keep Long Island running by maintaining our power plants and gas lines, ensuring safe and reliable service for families and businesses across our region."

They further highlighted the importance of a fair contract that addresses financial security concerns. "They deserve a fair contract that recognizes their diligence by providing financial security and keeping pace with the rising cost of living," they said.

Negotiations between IBEW Local 1049 and National Grid are ongoing as both sides seek agreement on issues such as wages, health care, and retirement benefits. The assemblymembers urged both parties to reach an agreement: "I urge both sides to reach an agreement that respects the sacrifices these workers make every day to serve our communities and ensures stability for workers, their families and the residents who depend on their services.”
