On September 26th, State Senator Steve Rhoads held the second annual Women of Distinction ceremony at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library. The event recognized 18 women for their significant contributions to the local community. The ceremony aimed to inspire younger generations by highlighting these women's achievements and encouraging them to pursue their aspirations.
The event began with Brownie Troop 3000 and Daisy Troop 3252 leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Kayla Knight singing the National Anthem. A welcoming prayer set a tone of unity and celebration. Young dancers from 5678 Dance Studio in Levittown performed, emphasizing community and the arts.
Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips delivered the keynote address, urging honorees to persevere and reminding attendees of the importance of setting high goals. Senator Rhoads discussed his legislative initiatives supporting women in New York State, emphasizing advocacy for women in the community.
Each honoree's biography was read aloud during the ceremony, highlighting their contributions and impact. Senator Rhoads presented each woman with a Women of Distinction award, expressing gratitude for their efforts to improve life on Long Island. The event concluded with a reception where attendees shared refreshments and celebrated these women's successes.
Senator Rhoads stated: “Under the glow of admiration and empowerment, my 2nd Annual Women of Distinction ceremony unfolded as a breathtaking celebration of resilience and inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on every heart in the room." He emphasized that these women are "trailblazers who have forged paths for future generations" and congratulated all honorees for their accomplishments.
