On April 24, 2024, the community of Cedarhurst celebrates the 100th birthday of the late Mayor Andrew J. Parise, a man described as a beacon of honor and integrity. Mayor Parise's journey from a distinguished U.S. Army soldier in World War II to a beloved public servant is highlighted by his unwavering commitment to justice and human dignity. Reflecting on his wartime experiences, Mayor Parise once shared, "General Eisenhower came out with an order — every soldier had to visit the camps to witness what went on there so there would be no question there was a Holocaust."

A close associate of Mayor Parise commended his leadership and work ethic, stating, "I witnessed firsthand his exemplary leadership and tireless work ethic." Another individual noted Mayor Parise's accessibility and genuine concern for the community, highlighting his open-door policy that allowed residents to voice their concerns directly.

Mayor Parise's legacy goes beyond his public service as he was also remembered as a devoted family man who instilled values of honor, integrity, and service in his loved ones. His impact on Cedarhurst, including the development of the Andrew J. Parise Park, continues to shape the vibrant community it is today.

In addition to honoring Mayor Parise, the community also pays tribute to Rabbi Binyomin Kamenetzky, a revered figure in the Long Island Jewish community. Despite their differing religious beliefs, Rabbi Kamenetzky and Mayor Parise shared a deep camaraderie and worked together to enhance the lives of those around them. Their collaboration exemplified mutual respect and cooperation, transcending cultural and religious boundaries.

As the community reflects on the legacies of Mayor Parise and Rabbi Kamenetzky, the call to uphold values of honor, family, and service resonates strongly. Their contributions as pillars of the "Greatest Generation" serve as a reminder of the enduring impact of unity and dedication to community welfare.
