The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to pass Rep. D'Esposito's resolution condemning the slogan "from the river to the sea, 'Palestine' will be free" as antisemitic. The resolution, known as H. Res. 883, saw a vote of 377-44 in favor.
In response to the passage of the resolution, Rep. D'Esposito expressed gratitude towards his colleagues for their support, stating, “I am thankful that House Republican leadership brought this critical resolution to the floor, and thankful to the vast majority of my colleagues on both sides for voting in favor of it. Wherever we find antisemitic crime, we find this phrase, and it is incumbent upon Congress to let these radicals know we condemn it.”
The decision to condemn the slogan comes in the wake of an unprecedented and unprovoked attack on Israel by Iran, which has led to a significant increase in antisemitic incidents, with reports showing a surge of nearly 400%, particularly in New York, following Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7th.
H. Res. 883 received overwhelming support, with nearly 90% of the votes cast in favor of the resolution. This marks the second successful bill from Rep. D'Esposito to pass the House floor, both of which have garnered broad, bipartisan backing.
