Congressman Anthony D'Esposito has introduced H. Res. 1120, a resolution condemning convicted cop killer Joanne Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur, for her murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973. The resolution also honors Trooper Foerster and other slain law enforcement officials connected to Chesimard while condemning those who support or honor her.
In a statement, Rep. D'Esposito emphasized, "Joanne Chesimard is a cowardly cop killer who hides in communist Cuba to avoid justice here at home, and yet there is a startling number of sympathizers in the United States who glorify this heinous criminal." He added, "My resolution makes it clear that Joanne Chesimard as well as those who revere her wicked deeds deserve the highest degree of condemnation, and I will not stop advocating for justice to be served and Chesimard to answer for her actions."
Paul DiGiacomo, President of the New York Police Department's Detectives' Endowment Association (DEA), echoed these sentiments, stating, "Joanne Chesimard is a convicted cop-killer on the run being harbored in Cuba — and celebrated by despicable politicians like Jamal Bowman who spits in the face of every cop and the families of fallen heroes." DiGiacomo expressed gratitude towards Congressman D’Esposito for exposing those who celebrate Chesimard for the disgraces they are.
The resolution introduced by Congressman D'Esposito serves as a strong denouncement of Joanne Chesimard and her supporters, calling for justice and accountability in the case of the convicted cop killer.
