Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) and his colleagues in the state Assembly have called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to veto the LLC Transparency Act. The legislation, if passed, would require the publication of the names and business addresses of LLC beneficial owners in a Business Entity Database. Blumencranz expressed concerns about the potential risks this could pose to certain business owners, particularly those from the Jewish community.
Blumencranz emphasized the need for additional safeguards in the bill, stating, “The so-called ‘LLC Transparency Act’ would expose vulnerable small business owners to further antisemitism.” He further outlined a proposal to establish a waiver process, managed by the Hate Crimes Task Force, which would allow LLC business owners who are part of a protected class to seek an exemption from the disclosure requirements.
The Assemblyman highlighted his dedication to safeguarding the safety and privacy of small business owners and their customers. He stressed the importance of implementing measures to protect business owners and prevent potential hate crimes in the state. Blumencranz urged Governor Hochul to consider these concerns and send the bill back to the Legislature for revisions.
In his plea to the governor, Blumencranz stated, “Governor Hochul must act now to protect New Yorkers and fight against antisemitism and hate.”
