Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) along with his Assembly Minority colleagues Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Assemblyman Mike Reilly (R,C-Staten Island), Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden), and Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) have put forth new legislation to address the migrant crisis in New York. The proposals are designed to address public concerns and risks associated with the recent surge of unmonitored migrants in the state.

Blumencranz emphasized the importance of these proposals by stating, "Whether the migrant crisis is directly affecting a particular New York community or not, this is a statewide issue." He further highlighted the severity of the situation by mentioning, "States of emergency are being declared throughout the state. This is embarrassing to our state and is an added reason for New Yorkers to leave for greener pastures."

The Assemblyman pointed out that there is already a significant budget allocated for immigration services in New York, stating, "One billion dollars has already been allocated toward services for immigration. There are zero excuses for sanctuary cities to be ill-equipped." Blumencranz stressed the urgency of finding solutions, concluding, "This was bound to happen and now we are pressed to find resolutions to protect our state and residents."

The proposed legislation aims to ensure transparency in the allocation of the $1 billion budget for New York City migrant needs, prevent elementary schools from losing access to facilities for housing migrants, protect veterans and active reservists from having their reservations canceled, and implement background checks and technology for registering and tracking illegal crossings into New York.

The efforts led by Blumencranz and his colleagues reflect a commitment to finding constructive solutions to address the migrant crisis in New York and protect the interests of the state and its residents.
