“In his State of the City address today, Mayor Adams outlined several initiatives to strengthen the city’s workforce and economy by drawing on CUNY’s established talent pipelines and its commitment to expanding access and opportunity for all New Yorkers. These partnerships between the city and its public university system support our shared objectives of a diverse, fully inclusive workforce and an equitable post-pandemic recovery that benefits all New Yorkers.

“The Mayor’s plan to strengthen tech training in the city by expanding the highly successful CUNY 2x Tech program recognizes CUNY’s crucial role in broadening access to the kind of well-paying jobs that will drive the city’s economy in the coming years and help alleviate long-standing historical disparities.

“His proposed partnership between the city and CUNY to create a Center for Nursing Education and Practice is an urgently needed investment that will prepare 800 nurse educators to train the next generation of nurses in New York City, help expand New York City’s nursing education capacity and significantly boost CUNY’s efforts to address the nursing shortage the city has faced since before the pandemic.

“We thank Mayor Adams, a proud CUNY graduate, and his administration for their vision, partnership and support on these initiatives and the many ongoing city-driven programs that promote the academic and career success of CUNY students and, by extension, the University’s vital role as an engine of social mobility. We look forward to working closely with the Mayor and New York City Council as the budget process proceeds, and we thank them for their continued vital commitment to public higher education in New York City.”
