New York State Senator Steve Rhoads is partnering with We Care Blankets to launch a Yarn & Blanket Drive for children undergoing cancer treatments. The initiative, running from April 10th through May 10th, aims to collect yarn and blankets to provide comfort and warmth to these young patients.

Senator Rhoads expressed the importance of supporting these children, stating, “It is a heartbreaking reality that many children have to endure such a difficult and painful journey fighting cancer at such a young age.” He emphasized the significance of providing love, comfort, and warmth in addition to medical treatments.

Tamara Baker, Founder of We Care Blankets, highlighted the organization's mission, saying, “For over 22 years, We Care Blankets has embraced ill children with comfort and love through the warmth of handmade blankets.” She expressed gratitude for Senator Rhoads’ partnership, which will enable them to continue providing blankets to children with cancer across America.

The Yarn & Blanket Drive encourages individuals to donate yarn at various locations or create blankets themselves. All blankets and yarn must be acrylic, washable, and fringe-free to ensure safety and ease of maintenance. Bright colors are preferred to bring joy and positivity to the children's lives.

Senator Rhoads thanked Verity Van Lines for their support in providing collection boxes for the drive. He also acknowledged the community's role in making a difference, stating, “Every small act of kindness can make a big impact in a child's life, and this initiative is a perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Residents can drop off yarn and blankets at 12 locations across New York, including libraries and fabric stores. The initiative aims to bring smiles to the faces of children in need and make their illness journey a little better.

For more information on the Yarn & Blanket Drive or any legislative matter, individuals can contact Senator Rhoads’ District Office at 516-882-0630 or rhoads@nysenate.gov.
