Blumencranz, a vocal advocate for suburban lifestyle, expressed strong opposition to Governor Hochul's high-rise plan during a recent gathering with local officials and state lawmakers. Blumencranz emphasized the importance of unity in challenging the proposed plan, stating, "It was very important to stand beside local officials and state lawmakers today to challenge Gov. Hochul’s high-rise plan together. The Majority is not hearing us, so we will continue to speak up until they do."
Highlighting the potential negative impact of the governor's housing plan, Blumencranz pointed out that it is not in the best interest of New Yorkers. The plan was criticized for attacking local rule, leaving emergency services ill-equipped to handle a surge in population, and hindering sewer and waste management by overwhelming existing infrastructure. Blumencranz warned, "There are too many unforeseen problems that will be revealed further down the road for this plan to move forward."
The concerns raised by Blumencranz reflect a growing sentiment among residents and advocates who fear the repercussions of the high-rise development on suburban communities. The pushback against Governor Hochul's plan underscores the ongoing debate over the balance between urban development and preserving the character of suburban areas.
