Great news for our volunteer fire fighters: yesterday, the legislature voted on a contract to update the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for the fire commission. This system allows emergency responders to obtain dispatch locations and updates in-route via iPads and mobile phones. The updates also allow for the county fire commission to coordinate with the individual fire departments and communicate back and forth. The voice-activated system will also provide real-time information before arriving at the scene, allow feedback, and provide ETAs on other crews arriving. Our fire fighters put their lives on the line every time they answer a call. This new CAD system will make their jobs easier and more efficient and allow them to continue to help the residents of Nassau County.
