Cost of college went up for all students at the United States Merchant Marine Academy

Tuition and fees rose 5.9 percent for 2018-19 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New York students paid $1,080 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $60 more than the $1,020 charged for 2017-18.

Data shows 38 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 43 students received grants or scholarships totaling $178,118 and 36 students took out student loans totaling more than $207,864.

Including all undergraduates (1,015), 95 students used grants or scholarships totaling $434,009, and 80 students took out $443,315 in federal student loans.
