Graduates earn 202 degrees from the United States Merchant Marine Academy

About 51.5 percent of the 202 degrees and certificates handed out by the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2017-18 were to students in engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Point conferred 100 bachelor's degrees and 4 master's degrees in engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in marine science/merchant marine officer. Data shows the school gave out 98 bachelor's degrees in marine science/merchant marine officer, followed by 65 bachelor's degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering and 35 bachelor's degrees in systems engineering.

The academy enrolled 1,015 students for 2017-18, including 996 in undergraduate programs and 19 in graduate programs.
