Assemblyman Ari Brown (R-Cedarhurst) has spearheaded a call for immediate action following the Binghamton University Student Association's endorsement of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Brown, along with a bipartisan group of Assembly members, expressed deep concern over the association's alignment with a movement known for its negative portrayal of Israel.

In a letter addressed to Chancellor King, the group urged for decisive measures to be taken in response to the support for BDS. The letter specifically called for the expulsion of students, faculty, and committee members involved in promoting the BDS movement on campus.

Brown emphasized the importance of addressing such actions swiftly, particularly in light of the recent surge in antisemitic incidents following a Hamas terrorist attack in October. The Anti-Defamation League has reported a significant increase in such incidents, with a substantial portion occurring within college settings.

"As a bipartisan group, we condemn the Binghamton University Student Association’s support for BDS. This divisive action undermines academic freedom and fosters intolerance. We urge Chancellor King to swiftly expel involved students, faculty and committee members," said Brown.

The call for action reflects a broader concern over the impact of BDS advocacy on academic environments and the need to uphold principles of tolerance and respect within educational institutions.
