Trustee Bruce A. Torino attended his last Village Board meeting on March 19, marking the end of his second four-year term.
Torino’s departure from the board is significant for the community, as he has served in various roles since moving to the Village with his wife in 1980. He first became involved as president of the Central Property Owners’ Association in 1996 and was elected to the Board a year later. After serving four years, he returned for another term starting in 2022.
Mayor Ed Finneran said, “He served all four terms with a very informed view on a myriad of topics. One of the most interesting and endearing qualities as it relates to this seat: When I’m wrong on an issue he doesn’t raise his voice. He’s always calm and talks me through his logic. We wish him the very best.”
During a recent meeting, Torino presented senior staff with baseball caps featuring humorous names related to their departments. In response, Mayor Finneran gave Torino a cap labeled “So Moved,” referencing Torino’s frequent motions during board meetings.
In remarks at his final meeting, Torino praised village staff and welcomed Trustee-elect Gerard Smith. “It has been a privilege to be here and work with everyone. The executive staff is the backbone of this Village … There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes. The most important consideration is civility and an open mind, a willingness to listen to others. Mr. Smith is most worthy,” he said.
The transition signals continuity for village leadership while recognizing Torino’s long-standing contributions.
