Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) joined Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jen DeSena, Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, and a coalition of state legislators to announce an initiative addressing airplane noise concerns through a petition to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The two supervisors have engaged an attorney to file legal action should the FAA continue to act in violation of federal law.

Recently, Assemblyman Ra and Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) sent a joint communication to the FAA urging the agency to implement a fairer distribution of flights to mitigate the adverse impacts of aircraft noise on residential areas.

“This petition marks a significant milestone in our collaborative efforts to find solutions that balance the needs of air travel with the well-being of our neighborhoods,” said Ra. “Local leaders and residents have consistently raised concerns about increasing noise pollution from overhead air traffic, with many feeling as though they live next to a runway.”

“We stand united in advocating for quieter skies,” Ra emphasized. “By partnering with local and federal officials, we are sending a clear message to the FAA that equitable distribution of flights isn’t just preferable—it’s essential for the health and happiness of our residents.”
