Senator Steve Rhoads presented the New York State Liberty Medal to Timothy Jaccard, a Wantagh resident and founder of the AMT Children of Hope Foundation. The ceremony took place after the Wantagh Independence Day Parade.
Jaccard, a retired paramedic from the Nassau County Police Department, has dedicated his life to protecting abandoned infants. In the 1990s, he began arranging dignified burials for deceased newborns, which led to a national movement against infant abandonment.
He played a key role in establishing Safe Haven laws across all 50 states. These laws allow parents to safely surrender newborns at designated locations without fear of prosecution. His efforts have saved over 5,000 infants nationwide.
“Timothy Jaccard’s selfless service and tireless advocacy are nothing short of heroic,” said Senator Rhoads. “His work has brought dignity to lives lost, hope to parents in crisis, and a future to thousands of children.”
Jaccard continues his work through education and awareness campaigns. He aims to reshape public perception and support families in crisis.
The New York State Liberty Medal honors individuals for exceptional acts on behalf of fellow New Yorkers. Jaccard’s work exemplifies these values.
