Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick has announced the selection of Commander Luke Magliaro as her 2025 New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame Inductee for Senate District 9.
Commander Magliaro, a U.S. Navy veteran, served for 30 years. During the Vietnam War, he was a Naval Flight Officer and took part in several significant operations, including Operation Baby Lift, Operation Frequent Wind, and the recovery of the SS Mayagüez. For his service, he received multiple commendations such as the Purple Heart, Navy Marine Corps Medal, and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
After his military career, Commander Magliaro continued to support veterans and his community. He has held various leadership roles within the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at different levels and is currently serving as a Veterans Service Counselor for the Town of Hempstead.
“Commander Magliaro’s courage in combat and decades of leadership in the veteran community truly make him a deserving honoree. He is not only a decorated war hero but also a tireless advocate for our veterans here at home. From his service in Vietnam to his continued work helping local veterans navigate the support systems they’ve earned; Commander Magliaro embodies the very best of American service and sacrifice. It is a privilege to honor him and share his story with the people of Senate District 9 and beyond,” stated Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick.
The formal recognition ceremony took place in Albany where Commander Magliaro was honored alongside other inductees from across New York State.
