Re-elected Deputy Mayor Judy Courtney and Trustee Vincent Muldoon took their oaths of office on April 6 during a ceremony at Village Hall, along with newcomer Gerard Smith, who will begin his first two-year term as trustee. Trustee Jessica Tai, also re-elected in March, was unable to attend and will be sworn in at the Board meeting on April 23.

The new and returning trustees join Mayor Ed Finneran and Trustees Michele Beach Harrington, Rich Catalano, and Yvonne Varano on the Board. The event marks a transition period for the village government as it welcomes both experienced members and new leadership.

Courtney received 2,132 votes in the March 18 election. She is a lifelong resident of Garden City with previous service as an Eastern Property Owners’ Association director—including two years as president—and as East representative on the Traffic Commission. In her second term, she will continue her roles including Commissioner of Building & Planning and Chair of several committees.

Muldoon begins his second term after receiving 2,189 votes. He will remain Fire Commissioner and Public Works Commissioner while also serving as Chair of the Traffic Commission and liaison to both Recreation & Parks Department and Business District/Chamber of Commerce alongside Trustee Harrington.

Smith was born in Garden City before living briefly in New York City; he returned to raise his family locally. He has been active with Estates POA and served on St. Paul’s Advisory Committee. Professionally, Smith spent over four decades working on Wall Street where he became a partner at Weeden & Co., bringing financial experience to his new role on the Finance & Audit Committee. Smith said he hopes to represent all residents: “I’m honored and really proud to be joining the Board,” he said. “The future of the Village will be the highest of my priorities.”

Trustees can be contacted through information available under the Government tab on the village website.
