The New York Islanders have signed forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau to a three-year contract that will begin with the 2026-27 NHL season.
Pageau, 33, is in his sixth full season with the Islanders. This year, he has scored 14 goals and provided 15 assists over 55 games. He leads the team in shorthanded points (six) and shorthanded goals (three). His shooting percentage of 23.3% is the highest on the team among players who have played at least 20 games, and his faceoff winning percentage stands at 60.1% for those with at least 50 faceoffs taken.
League-wide, Pageau ranks second in shooting percentage among skaters with at least 50 shots on goal this season. He is tied for first in shorthanded points and is fourth in faceoff winning percentage among players who have taken at least 500 faceoffs.
In his NHL career, which began with the Ottawa Senators before joining the Islanders, Pageau has played in 852 regular season games and recorded a total of 395 points (173 goals and 222 assists). His tally of 24 shorthanded goals and 46 shorthanded points are both second-most among active NHL players. Within Islanders franchise history, he ranks fifth in shorthanded points and is tied for tenth in shorthanded goals. Over each of the past ten seasons, he has maintained a faceoff win rate above fifty percent, holding a career average of 54.8%.
Pageau has also appeared in 86 Stanley Cup Playoff games during his career, registering 43 points (24 goals and 19 assists), including two hat tricks. During the Islanders’ run to the Stanley Cup semifinal in the 2020-21 season, he contributed three goals and ten assists over nineteen games. In total playoff appearances with New York, he has scored twelve goals and fifteen assists across fifty-one games.
Before reaching the NHL, Pageau played for Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League where he tallied thirty-eight goals and fifty-six assists over one hundred forty-two games. In junior hockey with Gatineau Olympiques and Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he averaged a point per game across one hundred seventy-five matches.
Internationally, Pageau represented Canada at the IIHF Men’s World Championship in 2018 where he posted five points (one goal and four assists) over ten games.
He was originally drafted by Ottawa as a fourth-round pick (96th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft. The Islanders acquired him from Ottawa on February 24, 2020, trading away three draft picks; he signed a six-year contract with New York that same day.
