The New York Islanders will play the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on March 10, concluding a four-game road trip. The Islanders are coming off a 2-1 overtime win against the San Jose Sharks, with Bo Horvat scoring the decisive goal and Tony DeAngelo also finding the net. Goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves in that game.
This matchup is significant as it marks the first meeting between Brayden Schenn and his former team since being traded from St. Louis to New York. Schenn had served as captain for the Blues and was part of their Stanley Cup-winning team in 2019. In return, Jonathan Drouin joined St. Louis after spending part of this season with the Islanders.
Sorokin is set to start in goal for New York for a third consecutive game. He has performed well against St. Louis historically, posting a record of 4-2-1 with a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.01 and a save percentage (SV%) of .926 in seven career starts versus the Blues. This season, Sorokin leads the league with six shutouts and ranks among the top ten goaltenders in GAA and SV%.
The Islanders currently hold third place in the Metropolitan Division with 77 points, trailing Pittsburgh by one point while Columbus remains close behind but both rivals have played fewer games. The Blues enter Tuesday’s contest having won four straight games but remain seventh in their division and face an uphill battle for playoff contention.
This will be only the second meeting between these teams this season; St. Louis won their previous encounter on November 22 by a score of 2-1.
