Gina Centauro, co-founder of Rescuing Families, Inc., has played a key role in the growth of the organization since its inception in 2016 alongside her husband, Vincent. Her efforts have significantly contributed to raising funds and awareness for the charity through creative initiatives. Major sponsors like 3M, Benjamin Moore, and Sierra Pacific Windows have supported these endeavors.

Under Ms. Centauro’s leadership, Rescuing Families has completed five extensive renovations for families with disabled members on Long Island. The inspiration for this work comes from her sister who has multiple disabilities and whom she cares for personally.

The couple’s dedication to their cause gained them recognition as the cover story in Newsday’s LI Life. They also featured on Good Morning America during the COVID-19 pandemic and appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss their charity’s impact.

Their efforts have been acknowledged through various awards such as the 2019 Making a Difference Award from the Town of Hempstead, LI Herald People of the Year in 2019, Richner Family Business Award in 2020, and United Way Workforce Hero Award in 2021.

Ms. Centauro herself received accolades including the Pathfinder Award in 2022 and Women of Distinction Award from Assemblymember Ra in 2023. She was also named Citizens of the Year by Franklin Square Historical Society that same year.

Her commitment extends beyond organizational duties; she personally addresses hundreds of emails weekly to assist those reaching out to Rescuing Families. “No one should be forgotten or left behind,” she asserts about her mission to support families with disabilities within her community.
