Republican Leader Ed Ra, a New York State Assembly member and Long Island native, posted a series of updates on social media regarding ongoing delays in the state budget process.

On April 6, 2026, Ra stated, “BUDGET UPDATE: We still don’t have a framework of a conceptual timeframe for the second budget extender.”

The following day, he commented on the legislative process with a lighter tone: “Good news. I’m done coaching UConn and ready to pass another budget extender tomorrow morning. #pleasestoptellingmeilooklikedannyhurley” (April 7, 2026).

Later that day, Ra addressed the consequences of the delay: “The State Budget will be at least two weeks late. Albany Democrats are operating a snail’s pace, now municipalities & local institutions are forced to operate in the dark. My statement on the 2nd kick-the-can budget extender:” (April 7, 2026).

Ed Ra has served in the New York State Assembly since his first election in 2010 and is known for advocating transparency in the state budget process as well as addressing public corruption and safety issues. He holds degrees from Loyola College in Maryland, St. John’s University School of Law, and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (official biography). Ra lives with his wife Laura and their shelter dog Carter and is active in several community organizations.
