Congresswoman Laura Gillen, representing New York’s 4th congressional district, has recently highlighted issues of equality, education, and historical remembrance in a series of social media posts.
On March 8, 2026, Congresswoman Gillen recognized International Women’s Day by posting: “Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we persist in the ongoing fight for equality and justice for women around the world.”
Two days later, on March 10, she detailed her engagement with local educational leaders. She wrote: “Today, I hosted a meeting with local school superintendents and administrators at Roosevelt High School. These hardworking educators help shape our children and their futures. I’m proud to support them and advocate for the resources they need in Congress.”
Later that same day, Gillen commemorated Harriet Tubman’s legacy by stating: “Harriet Tubman didn’t just dream of freedom—she bravely led others to it. More than a century after her passing, we continue to honor her legacy and share the story of her extraordinary courage.”
International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 to recognize achievements by women and promote gender equality worldwide. Harriet Tubman remains an enduring symbol of courage for her role as an abolitionist who led enslaved people to freedom through the Underground Railroad.
