Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory for the New York Islanders against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. With only 40 seconds left in the extra period, Horvat netted his third overtime goal of the season, putting him ahead on the team for OT goals.

Since the beginning of the 2023-24 NHL season, Horvat has scored eight overtime winners, tying him with Kirill Kaprizov and Cole Caufield for third-most in the league during that time frame. He also has 19 game-winning goals since then, matching players such as Nathan MacKinnon, Brayden Point, Kyle Connor, and Dylan Guenther for ninth place in this category across the NHL.

In addition to his decisive goal, Horvat led his team with six shots on target and won 10 out of 18 faceoffs. His defensive effort was also key; he blocked a hard slap shot from Dmitry Orlov with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation while the Islanders were shorthanded.

Tony DeAngelo praised Horvat’s performance after the game: “He had that huge block right before overtime, he put his face in front of it,” DeAngelo said. “He got us to overtime, then got us the extra point.”

Horvat now holds the team’s Iron Man mask, which was previously held by Anders Lee.
