New York State Assemblyman Ari Brown has voiced concerns over the resumption of Equinor’s offshore wind project off Long Island’s South Shore. The federal stop-work order on the project was recently lifted, prompting Brown to issue a statement expressing apprehension about the decision.

“News that the federal stop-work order on Equinor’s offshore wind project has been lifted raises serious concerns for our communities,” Brown stated. He emphasized the need for further understanding of how this decision aligns with the interests of Long Island residents.

Brown criticized Equinor for its perceived lack of responsiveness to local needs and voices, highlighting issues beyond clean energy, such as local control and responsible planning. “This is not just about clean energy—this is about local control, responsible planning and making sure our communities are not sidelined in decisions that impact their daily lives and their environment,” he added.

The assemblyman pledged ongoing collaboration with state and federal partners to ensure transparency and accountability in protecting Long Islanders’ interests. “We will continue working closely with our partners at the state and federal levels to ensure transparency, accountability and that the interests of Long Islanders are front and center,” Brown said. He concluded by affirming his commitment to advocating for his community: “We are committed to doing what’s right for our community—and we will not stop fighting to protect it.”
